Farming Responsibly

Healthy Food

All of our livestock are pasture-raised, eating a salad bar of grasses and forbs. That means pasture-raised animals that have more omega-3 and other healthy fats than feedlot beef and lamb. Our livestock are never given antibiotics, unless needed for the health of the animal.

Healthy Animals

We believe animals should have the right to express their natural tendencies. That means ruminants grazing grass and forbs in pasture. As omnivores, our poultry have the ability to roam, scratch, root, and eat insects and vegetation.

Healthy Environment

We welcome and promote the biodiversity of plants, insects, birds, and other life that shows up once vast monocultures are replaced with a diverse farm. We farm in a way that reduces excessive nutrient runoff going into our waterways, which causes algal blooms in our beloved Great Lakes. We strive to improve the health of our land with each growing season.

Carbon Negative

A major tenet of our farming practices is pulling carbon out of the atmosphere through photosynthesis and putting it in the soil. Years of excessive tillage has degraded much of our topsoil throughout the US by reducing organic matter. Our goal is to continuously increase the organic matter in our soils. Using soil testing, in the future we plan to document how many pounds of carbon dioxide (CO2) are sequestered in the soil for every pound of meat you buy.
